God's Canvas Home

June 19, 2002. I am trying something new. I left the house on and saw an amazing sight in the sky. I pulled over and used my new toy (digital camera) to grab some photos. Then on the way to work I had a thought - what great way to start the day: with something beautiful. And what better to do with that than to let it set the tone for your whole day. The world is full of too much rushing around; so I am going to try to start each day with a reminder of what is really important.

The result of these thoughts is a daily posting of a photo with a small verse. Today - June 19 - is day one. The "site" needs some more work, but I wanted to overcome my penchant for procrastination tactics and get the first day posted.

The title of the site? An idea that I have had for a book for a long time.

June 2, 2003. It's been almost a year since I started the site. Every month I try to make a change to it. This month, I started this page, to get some of the text off the index, and to give me space to talk about how the site has grown. I am still trying to post a photo every day. Weekends are often done on Monday mornings. And sometimes this thing called life happens, and a whole week may go by without a new posting. Like now. Fortunately, I have good friends that gently nudge me when I get behind. Afterall, if I am behind, I am missing my own point. I have also stopped the quotes. While they were a great exercise for me, they became a major factor in getting behind. I have more photos than original words of wisdom, so I've chosen to be prompt with pictures and not lag because of a lack of words.

I don't always like the pictures. And sometimes the quality is not great. But each image represents something I saw, something I appreciated, something I want to remember and be grateful for.

June 19, 2003. It's been one year since the day I walked out of the house into that beautiful sunrise that became the inspiration for God's Canvas. I was hoping for the same luck today. Instead, the immediate world is once again bathed in rain, with roads closed because of flooding. So the very day reminded me of my point a year ago ... to find beauty in every day. So in the area behind my office building, I wandered about, appreciating the green life that has resulted from the very wet season we have had. I liked the water drops on the leaves, since it simultaneously depicts what is happening in the moment, as well as its impact in the past.
